Red like the Coca-Cola I drink at Grandma’s house

Sweet and fizzy

It goes perfectly with her spaghetti and meatballs

The meal I love more than a $40 steak

Or even chicken pot pie

Orange like my hometown’s school color

I’ll go to a game for the highschool

Scream the school motto

And look back and beam

At the dumbest things I’ve ever said

Yellow like the sun

That grows our food and keeps us warm

I thank her for that every day

Thanks for the reminder actually

I almost forgot to today

Green like Slytherin house

In a book series that kept me alive and happy

When Mom’s best wasn’t enough

Blue like my eyes

And my Mom’s eyes

And her Mom’s eyes

A lot of people in my family have blue eyes, huh?

Indigo like the midnight sky up north such a generic descriptor

For such an integral moment

Violet like the blanket at my best friend’s house

Pretty useful

Since they never turn their heat on

Without color I’d barely be alive

It’s my job to spread the colors of the rainbow

To my family

My friends

Not as one gift

But a mutual exchange

That makes things a little brighter.
